Dr. Angela Byars-Winston Honored as Champion of Change (video)

Dr. Angela Byars-Winston, a visiting associate professor in the Department of Medicine, was one of 12 people honored as Champions of Change, a program that is part of President Barack Obama's Winning the Future initiative to recognize educators, community and business leaders who are developing and researching programs to improve their communities.

Dr. Byars-Winston, of the Division of General Internal Medicine, has been researching obstacles that may be holding back the advancement of girls, women and minorities who are interested in STEM-related careers. Her scholarship reveals the importance of cultural factors that inhibit and facilitate STEM educational and career pursuits.
